Mandatory Equipment (you will not be allowed to compete without these items:

  • Helmet (cycling, hockey, or other will be allowed)
  • Neck protection/guard

  • Long sleeves and long pants/tights/leggings

Recommended Equipment

  • Knee pads
  • Shin guards
  • Cut-resistant ankle protection

All competitors must register online. Race registration is handled “It’s Your Race”. The following are the registration fees for the event:

Early Registration (by July 15, 2019): $50.00

Regular Registration (July 16 – October 1): $60.00

Late Registration (after October 1): $75.00

Required: US Speedskating Membership

All competitors must be US Speedskating members. Please note that a US Speedskating membership is not the same thing as a membership with a local skating club. US Speedskating is the national governing body of our sport, and they supply the insurance coverage that makes it possible to hold events like this competition, not to mention have a speedskating club in the first place.

Novice skaters may be eligible for the $30 "1st Year" membership. Skaters who have previously been US Speedskating members are eligible for the $55 "Club Competitor/Recreational" membership. These memberships let you race almost anywhere. To compete at national-level events, you will need the $95 "National-Level Competitor" membership.

Please access the US Speedskating membership registration page here: https://webpoint.usspeedskating.org/wp/Memberships/Join.wp

You will be required to show proof of membership to participate in this event.

Schedule

Skaters should plan to arrive by 10:45 pm to allow ample time for check-in. Pads will be put out promptly at 11:45 am and warmups will start immediately after. Adult skaters should have their skates on by 11:45 to assist with pad and track setup. Race distances, groupings, and order of events will be posted after all skaters have checked in.

Qualifying Time

As part of the skater’s registration process, please provide a qualifying time for the 500 meter distance, if known. If not, provide a time for another distance or indicate “novice” or “intermediate”, etc.

Other Details

Race groupings will be based primarily on skater ability rather than age and gender, so that as much as possible, all skaters will have the opportunity to be competitive within their race groups. Skaters in the same age range may skate in different race groups if the submitted qualifying times indicate skaters are of significantly different abilities. In this case, skaters in the faster group will automatically place higher in the overall age range standings than skaters in slower groups. Final race groupings are established at the sole discretion of the Competition Director. All race times from this event are unofficial and do not represent US Speedskating sanctioned times for qualification to Age Group Nationals.

Phoenix Speedskating Club is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. The club provides the general public the opportunity to discover the sport of speedskating by providing instruction, safety equipment, and dedicated ice sessions. All Phoenix Speedskating Club board members and coaches are volunteers. One-hundred percent of fees, dues, and donations collected go entirely to supporting our program costs in the form of ice usage fees and skating, safety, or training equipment.
